HockeyFest 2018 hailed a great success

Last weekend (Saturday 1st September), Maidenhead Hockey Club celebrated all that is great about the game at its annual Hockey Festival (HockeyFest). The club encouraged both existing members and those new to the sport to some along for a family friendly, fun packed afternoon of sporting fun.

The event, which took place at their home pitch at Altwood School offered attendees access to a range of sporting activities, as well as a coffee and cake stand for all to enjoy.

At this year’s event, the club was delighted to welcome a large number of families new to the sport, with many going on to sign up for the new season.

Helen Todd of Maidenhead Hockey Club said: “Events such as HockeyFest really help us to reach out the wider community and encourage more people into the sport. We had one family who had just relocated and were new to the area. They came along on Saturday and enjoyed the afternoon so much, both of their daughters signed up to join the club for the new season.”

Lindsey Lucas of Maidenhead Hockey Club added: “It was fantastic to see so many families, many who had never played hockey before come along and take part in the afternoon’s activities. We are a really sociable and welcoming club with opportunities for people of all levels – it really is a great way to keep fit, while meeting new people and making lifelong friends.”

Hockey Fest, which is spearheaded by England Hockey, is a nationally recognised celebration of the sport, with events taking place across the county (hosted by local clubs) on an annual basis. The event, being held by Maidenhead Hockey Club, was open to both club members and non-members.

The event was sponsored by the Club’s partners, Claire’s Court School and Hawkinsport. This year, the club also teamed up with TITAN mouthguard, who attended the event.

Hockey Fest is focused on the friendly and social side of hockey and encourages clubs to open their doors to new and existing hockey players.

Founded in 1904, Maidenhead Hockey Club is a welcoming club with over 450 adult and junior members. Anyone interested in becoming a member can email newmembers@maidenheadhc.org.uk for more information or visit www.maidenheadhc.org.uk
