Over 200 participants take on and conquer the Brentford Challenge

Sunday saw the sun shining on Syon Park as over 200 participants took on the Brentford Challenge with Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and Brentford Lock West. The event was split into different activities including the Family 5K Fun Run, 1K Children’s Fun Run, Stand-Up Paddleboarding (at Brentford Lock) and multisport activity.

Former 10,000m World Record Holder and former London Marathon Race Director David Bedford OBE started the Family 5K Fun Run which saw Peter Drew cross the finish line in the quickest time of 20m 35secs to a high-five from Brentford FC mascot Buzz Bee. The quickest female finisher was Anita Giusti who came in second position overall in a time of 21min 05secs.

Andrew Bell, Corporate Partnerships and Events Manager at Brentford FC Community Sports Trust said: “When we were planning this years’ event we wanted to make it less about the competition and more inclusive, proving that sport is for everyone. The day was a great success; it was particularly pleasing to see different generations of families taking part together in both the Family 5K Fun Run and the Children’s 1K Fun Run. The weather helped to bring the crowds and the stunning backdrop of Syon House makes for a pleasurable run, jog or walk.”

John Robinson, Development Director at Brentford Lock West, said: “The Brentford Challenge is always a fun filled event, which appeals to people across the community. It was a privilege to be involved again this year and it was great to see so many people taking the opportunity to get active. Whether it’s paddle boarding on the Grand Union Canal or enjoying the stunning grounds of Syon Park, Brentford has plenty to offer its residents. Our thanks go to the Sports Trust for orchestrating yet another superb community event.”
