Slough development up for two awards this month

Milestone in Slough, the flagship residential development delivered by Slough Urban Renewal (SUR), has been shortlisted for two, highly regarded property awards. This month, it will find out if the development has been successful at the locally acclaimed Thames Valley Property Awards (ceremony on 3rd May) and the nationally recognised RESI Awards (ceremony on 16th May).

Milestone has been shortlisted for:

  • RESI Awards: Development of the Year
  • Thames Valley Property Awards: Residential Development of the Year

Milestone transformed a previously disused, Council owned site into a vibrant new community. The development delivered 73 new homes, a mixture of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses. The development also included over 30% affordable housing. All the homes enjoyed a high specification throughout, setting the standard for the town’s future residential developments.]

First launched in summer 2016, the homes were popular among local buyers, enjoying a sell-out success. The first of the new residents moved in, December 2016, with the final few sales completing by late summer 2017.

As the partnership’s first residential scheme, SUR took an innovative approach to sales, prioritising local buyers over investors – helping to ensure the Council met its vision for providing homes for local people.

100% of the homes at Milestone were sold to owner occupiers and just under half of purchasers (48%) came from the local area. A further 22% of purchasers moved from London, attracted by the towns excellent transport connections and more affordable house prices. The arrival of Crossrail in 2019 also proved a draw.

Help to Buy was widely used, with 78% of buyers using it to assist with their purchase.

Andy Howell, General Manager at Slough Urban Renewal (SUR), commented: “We are really proud of Milestone and what this development delivered for the town. As a partnership with Slough Borough Council, it is so important that the residential schemes we deliver are directly tailored to meet the needs of the town’s people. By pursuing a policy of only selling to owner occupiers and with some many first-time buyers able to secure a home here, we have delivered a thriving new community, right in the heart of Slough.”

In addition to Milestone being shortlisted for Residential Development of the Year at the Thames Valley Property Awards, Slough is represented in four further categories at these awards, including being shortlisted for Town of the Year.

Milestone was the flagship, residential development by Slough Urban Renewal (SUR) – a proud partnership between Slough Borough Council and Morgan Sindall Investments Limited. Committed to transforming the borough through a broad range of residential and commercial projects, SUR is focused on investing in the town and its people.
