Slough Urban Renewal (SUR) opens its doors to local community

As part of the nationally recognised Open Doors Week (Monday 19th – Saturday 24th March 2018) Slough Urban Renewal (SUR) is opening its doors at two current development sites in Slough. Members of the public can book themselves onto events at either Wexham Green, SUR’s latest residential housing scheme or The Centre, a new multi-million-pound leisure facility in Slough. At both sites, attendees will get the opportunity to go behind the scenes and explore the projects in their current stage of construction.

These free of charge tours, which are available to over 18s, will provide an insight into the workings of a live site, along with an up to date information on the site’s current progress and the many roles and opportunities, which a career in construction can offer.

The nationally recognised event, which runs across the construction industry, aims to provide members of the community with a unique chance to see behind the scenes at major ‘live’ construction sites across England, Scotland and Wales. Participants get the opportunity to discover how the buildings and structures in their own communities are constructed, while also finding out about the diverse range of skills and professions that are needed on site.

SUR is currently offering tours at two of its live projects:

Wexham Green – SUR’s latest residential development comprising 104 high quality, family homes
Tours available: Wednesday March 21st, 12:30-2pm
Attendees will receive a presentation about the site and its progress so far, followed by a site tour.

Ged Humphries, Community Benefits Employment & Skills Coordinator for SUR said: “These events provide people from the local community with a great insight into the real workings of a live site. There are so many roles and skill sets that are encompassed by the construction industry – many of which people may just not be aware of. Whether you are a student just beginning to explore potential career options, someone considering a career change or just simply interested in exploring some of the projects taking shape in your own town I would encourage you to sign up and come along.”

The Open Doors initiative aims to attract new talent into the construction industry, inspiring people to consider a career in construction, opening their eyes to the varied and far reaching roles which could be available to them.
