Phase 2 at Brentford Lock West secures RIBA London Award

Last night, Waterside Places’ Brentford Lock West development in west London picked up a RIBA London award for the second phase of its residential-led waterside scheme, designed by Mae Architects. This marks the development’s fifth RIBA award, highlighting the exceptional design that runs throughout the scheme.

Chalico Walk, the first collection of homes to be delivered as part of phase two, already secured a London RIBA Award in 2018 for its architecture. This time, the entire collection of homes in phase two have picked up an award, which includes the impressive Keelson Gardens.  Arranged around a beautifully landscaped courtyard, Keelson Gardens comprises a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, duplex apartments, penthouses and townhouses.

RIBA awards have previously been awarded to The Arbor in 2017 (which formed part of phase one), which picked up a RIBA London Award and The Halyards, the first collection of homes delivered as part of this large-scale regeneration scheme, which secured a RIBA National and a RIBA London Award in 2015.

James Stockdale, Development Manager, Brentford Lock West, said: “This is fantastic recognition for our scheme in Brentford. Our impressive tally of five RIBA awards here really highlights the emphasis we have placed on great design. The homes at Brentford Lock West offer a very rare and exciting opportunity to secure a new, award-wining home in an impressive, waterside setting. With just a small number of homes still available, there is limited time left to secure a home here.”

Helen Clark, Associate, Mæ, added: "On behalf of my colleagues at Mæ, we are delighted to win this prestigious award for Brentford Lock West Phase 2. Our design builds on the rich industrial heritage of the canal-side setting whilst taking cues from a nearby residential conservation area to create a vibrant and diverse new neighbourhood."

Brentford Lock West forms part of Waterside Places’ long-term regeneration project to breathe new life into Brentford through the anticipated delivery of in excess of 700 new homes. Close to local shops, leisure facilities, beautiful parks and waterside walkways, the scheme has been carefully designed to maximise the water frontage whilst offering stylish homes, community spaces and commercial buildings in a new desirable west London destination.  The third and final phase here has received planning permission, with initial works due to commence on site later this year.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) awards are highly regarded across the industry, recognising buildings throughout the UK that have made a significant contribution to architecture.

Regional winners will be put forward for the RIBA National Awards, with the successful recipients announced in June. Those collecting national awards will then be considered for the RIBA Stirling Prize shortlist.
