Old pub site transformed into new council homes

Six new homes for people on the housing waiting list have been completed on the site of the old Lynchpin pub site in Britwell.

Chepstow Court is the largest single site to be delivered in phase two of the council’s small sites transformation. The site is now home to six modern, three bedroom semi-detached homes with their own garden and parking.

Cabinet member for housing, councillor Mohammed Nazir visited the Long Furlong Drive site to mark the completion of the project ahead of residents moving into their new homes.

Councillor Nazir said: “I am delighted to see our vision for the transformation of Slough’s small sites coming to fruition. We’re utilising small plots of land – garages, derelict properties and infill – to provide desperately needed, quality council homes for the people of our town.

“The demand for all types of housing in Slough is at record levels and we’re working hard to meet the needs of our residents. Every site we deliver makes a real difference to the people of Slough and we have plans in place to complete many more in the years to come.”

Phase two has already seen the completion of a two-bedroom wheelchair accessible bungalow, built on a redundant garage site with private access on Wordsworth Road.

A further site on Thirlmere Avenue will be handed over at the end of this week. The redundant parking area has been transformed to provide four, three-bedroom semi detached houses with parking.

The new developments are being undertaken by Slough Urban Renewal (SUR), a partnership between Slough Borough Council and Morgan Sindall Investments Ltd, which is driving regeneration across the town including in leisure, housing, community and school buildings.

David Freer, development manager at Slough Urban Renewal, said: “Handing over Chepstow Court is an exciting and significant milestone in the small sites pipeline.

“Our partnership with Slough Borough Council has enabled us to make a real difference to the people of Slough, transforming small sites to provide much needed new homes across the town.

“We are delighted to see the hard work put into this phase of development culminate in local people moving into new houses and making them their homes.”
