Salt Hill Activity Centre nears completion

Slough families are one step closer to being able to walk through the doors of the new Salt Hill Activity Centre.

Councillor Rob Anderson, lead member for environment and leisure took a tour of the site to see how works to transform the building are progressing.

The site is just weeks away from completion as the finishing touches are being made to the former ten-pin bowling centre, ahead of it opening on Monday 11 June.

The Salt Hill Activity Centre will deliver a range of exciting activities and facilities designed specifically to meet the needs of Slough’s families.

Residents are set to enjoy a trampolining zone with light chase game and battle pits, a high-wire climbing zone with tight ropes and suspended mid-air tubes, caving zone, large soft play area and six ten-pin bowling lanes in a separate area with its own bar.

The activity centre will house five party rooms and an extensively refurbished café and the site will feature additional car parking spaces.

Councillor Anderson said: “The Salt Hill Activity Centre will be a fantastic addition to our town and I was greatly impressed by the progress being made on site. I was even lucky enough to have some fun trying out the centre’s battle pits.

“Our town needs great leisure options for its families. Salt Hill is one of a range of new facilities we’re delivering across the borough in our effort to make Slough one of the most active towns in the country. What better way of encouraging people to take control of their own health and wellbeing than by making exercise fun?

“Whether it be a child’s birthday party, a group of friends having an evening out bowling, or a nursery group enjoying the soft play area, there really is something for everyone.”

The Salt Hill Activity Centre project is being undertaken by Slough Urban Renewal (SUR), a partnership between Slough Borough Council and Morgan Sindall Investments Ltd, which is driving regeneration across the town including leisure, housing, community and school buildings.

Andy Howell, SUR general manager, said: “It has been a pleasure to see the building transform and we are excited to complete this fantastic new fun filled space! The new activity centre is quite unique and will be a great venue for families to enjoy time together being active!”

When open the facility will be managed by the council’s leisure provider Everyone Active.

Sally Thomas-Ellis, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We are very excited to be opening the doors of Salt Hill Activity Centre next month. The facilities on offer are fantastic, and will provide the community with a wealth of fun, and novel ways to get active.

“The council is investing heavily in the borough’s sports and leisure facilities, and we are delighted to be supporting its mission to make Slough one of the most active towns in the country. With the reopening of the Ice Arena in April, as well as Langley Leisure Centre in the coming weeks, people in the town will really begin to feel the benefits of having state-of-the-art leisure facilities on their doorstep.”

Everyone Active and Slough Borough Council will be hosting a free family fun day at the new Salt Hill Activity Centre on Saturday 16 June from 10am-4pm.

Local residents will have an opportunity to sample the exciting new activities on offer at the centre and try their hand at a family X-plorer trail challenge.

People are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment as places are limited. Bookings can be made online from Friday 1 June at https://www.everyoneactive.com
