First residents at Daedalus Village settle into their new homes

The first residents have moved into their new homes at Daedalus Village, marking a significant step forward for the project.

More than 23 people have now moved into properties on the historic site in Lee-on-the-Solent, with many enjoying their first Christmas and New Year in their new homes.

In total, the project will deliver 200 new homes, including 120 private and 80 affordable properties. Work at the site started in November 2018 after Homes England – the Government’s housing delivery agency – chose Wates Residential as its trusted development partner.

The site is designed to enable fast-track building on publicly owned land, with the homes being built at double the pace of the industry standard.

The first homes on the site were completed in April 2019. They proved immediately popular amongst both local buyers and those further afield who are attracted to desirable seaside location.

The project will see Wates Residential directly invest £25 million into regenerating the site, dramatically increasing the number of new homes available in Gosport and leaving a lasting legacy for the community.

Local first time buyer Georgia Faithfull and her partner Adam are delighted with their new home at Daedalus Village, which they were able to move into just in time for Christmas. Georgia said:
“We are so happy we found this house. We had been looking for somewhere to buy for a while but nothing had caught our eye. When we heard about the homes at Daedalus Village we went along to take a look and we knew straight away that this is where we wanted to live. It’s been fantastic to be able to just move straight in and there is nothing we need to do.

“The finish here is really good – from the new kitchen to all the internal doors. The location here also really adds to the appeal. To be able to walk down to the beach in five minutes makes this a very special place to live. We are so happy with our new home here.”

Paul Nicholls, Managing Director for Wates Residential, said:
“We are delighted to have welcomed the first of our residents into their new homes here. The whole ethos behind this development is to create not just houses but homes, and a whole new community where people want to stay and build a future.

“With the first of the homes now ready and our new residents all moved in, it’s an exciting time at Daedalus Village for both us and for our purchasers. We still have a range of new homes available here and I would encourage anyone looking for a new home in the area to visit our sales suite and explore all that we have on offer.”

The residential project, which forms part of the larger regeneration of the former Naval Air Station, is set to create a new community on the western edge of Lee-on-the-Solent, with shared open spaces, children's play areas and tree lined avenues.

As part of the project, Wates Residential is also creating training and employment opportunities for local people, and is boosting the local economy through the appointment of local suppliers and sub-contractors.
The 200 homes include a mixture of apartments and houses, for both private sale and shared ownership. The first 120 houses, a mixture of two, three and four bedroom homes, which are for private sale, are now selling, with prices starting from £285,000.
